Ukrainian-Belarusian talks take place in Chernihiv

In Chernihiv extended Ukrainian-Belarusian talks took place, chaired by President Yushchenko of Ukraine and President Lukashenko of Belarus. Following the talks a ceremony of signature of bilateral documents between Ukraine and Belarus was held.

Among members of Ukrainian delegation were First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov, Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko, Deputy Chief of President’s Staff Andrii Goncharuk.

After the talks President Yushchenko said that he was satisfied with their results and repeated that Ukraine highly appreciates good bilateral relations it has with Belarus and expressed hope that they would furher develop succesfully in that manner.

From his part President Lukashenko pointed to great mutual confidence between Ukraine and Belarus. He also thanked his Ukrainian colleague for support Ukraine renders to Belarus at all levels of communication with European and American partners.

President Lukashenko said that the talks held today were prolific, particularly in energy cooperation. Speaking about the latter he expressed expectancy that the sides would reach agreement on Ukraine supplying electricity to Belarus.
