President Yushchenko's Christmas greetings to Ukrainian nation

Dear Ukrainian nation,

Dear fellow countrymen,

A wonderful, peaceful and solemn moment came to our homes.

Eve of the Nativity came to us.

The Nativity of Jesus Christ comes to us – one of the brightest feasts granted to human by the supreme good.

Trough the winter, through the years, trough the centuries flies to Ukraine in a sleigh the eternal Christmas as hope, as a message of joy, as the birth of God.

Let there be silence for a moment.

A sacrament begins in our homes.

It cloaks our whole nation with warmth, all the people of our land – without regard to views or beliefs – our whole kind, many times rough but wise and sensible family.

This is a sacrament of good, family understanding and reconciliation.

I wish good to everybody.

I wish that we addressed each other with a word of Christmas peace and thanked that we are here and that we are together.

I wish that we gave our warmth to our parents, relatives and to our beloved people, to our children, friends and everybody around us.

I wish that during Christmas feast we found a way to help those in trouble, even if they are unfamiliar to us.

I wish we recalled those, who are not with us but are in our hearts forever.

I wish we thought of everyone who are far from home and of everyone who waits for comeback.

I wish to us all certitude, faith and endurance.

Riding a silver Christmas sleigh the Mother of God guards our infant. It was a vision of genius poet Bohdan-Ihor Antonych. We celebrate hundredth anniversary of his birth this year.

Ukrainian spirit and Ukrainian proprietor is riding a happy winter Christmas sleigh. This was a vision of genius painter Maria Prymachenko. This year we celebrate hundredth anniversary of her birth too.

Century by century, since olden days and forever, on this land lives and will live our soul, our genius, our faith in God’s blessing to be proprietors of good fortune.

I wish good fortune to all of us.

I wish good fortune to our every home and especially to those that were rebuilt after foul weather, or newly built to see the Nativity of Christ for the firs time.

I wish good fortune to our state ant to whole Ukrainian community of the world.

God grant happiness, health and wealth to all of us.

Let’s love each other. Let’s respect each other. Let’s praise eternal birth of God.

Christ is born!

Glorify Him!
