President writes letter to Petryliv village inhabitants

President Victor Yushchenko wrote a letter to inhabitants of Petryliv village, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

In his letter President stated his opinion on the intention of the villagers to name one of the streets in Petryliv after him.

According to him a practice of naming streets after acting state officials and politicians has its roots in totalitarian times and therefore today that would be unacceptable.

Reminding that all Ukrainian people united in their effort to help those who suffered from the disaster and that recently Ukraine celebrated the 90th anniversary of West Ukrainian National Republic proclamation President Yushchenko instead suggested that the street was named in honor of the idea of national unity.
