Ukrainians adopted over 1,500 children over nine months

Ukrainian citizens adopted 1,505 children over nine months, 227 children up against the same period of the last year, Minister for Family, Youth and Sports Yuriy Pavlenko told a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for Childhood Protection.

The minister also informed that as of October 1, 2008, 10,175 children were taken under guardianship. On the whole, over 63 thousand orphans and children deprived of parental care are under guardianship, 6,000 out of that number are at foster homes and family-type homes. This year, 1,515 orphans were taken for fosterage.

Presently, 347 children's family-type homes are functioning in the country, 2,335 children are fostered there, there are also 2,216 foster families with 3,701 children educated there.
