Ukraine, Germany unite efforts to fight against HIV/AIDS

In frames of a visit of representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health (Germany), Deputy Director-General for Infectious Disease Control and Health Protection F.-J. Bindert and Head of the Unit for Fight against AIDS Ines Perea met Ukraine's Deputy Health Care Minister Valeriy Bidnyi and a group of high-ranked officials of the Ukrainian ministry in charge of HIV/AIDS prevention.

V. Bidnyi informed his German colleagues of the latest measures undertaken by the government to solve the problem of HIV/AIDS in Ukraine. According to the deputy minister, a governmental program envisages financial assistance to implement the Program to Fight against HIV/AIDS to the tune of UAH 4.5 billion (USD 1 - UAH 4.85) in the next 5 years. The funds will be used in purchasing equipment, ensuring diagnosis availability, qualitative therapy.

"In Germany, the problem is relatively settled, so we would like to share own experience with the Ukrainian colleagues," F.-J. Bindert said adding that in global meaning the disease has no borders and only joint efforts may defeat it.

The German delegation visited the Ukrainian Center for AIDS Prevention of the Health Care Ministry and the Kyiv City Center for AIDS Prevention.

The parties signed a memorandum between the German Society for Technical Cooperation and the Ukrainian Health Care Ministry regarding a project entitled "Germany-Ukraine Initiative to Fight against HIV/AIDS".
