International seminar on development of transborder cooperation in Lower Danube Euroregion kicks off in Izmail

The International Seminar "Development of Transborder Cooperation in the Sphere of Integrated Water Resources Management in the Lower Danube Euroregion" opened in the city of Izmail (Odesa region, South Ukraine).

Issues of international cooperation have been discussed in the sphere of management of water resources and results of the first year of the international project implementation supported by the European Commission through a Program of Ukraine-Romania neighborhood. It is also expected that the Danube Basin Council will be set up today as a kind of the International Water Parliament of the Lower Danube.

The basin principle of water resources management, according to Deputy Chairman of the Odesa Regional Council Mykola Tyndiuk, will enable to reach raising of the people's life standard, including through providing the region with the water. Director of the Department for Regional Development, European Integration and Foreign Relations of the Tulca District Council (Romania) Octavian Motok is convinced in mutual usefulness of the TACIS project for Ukraine and Romania having a single delta.

Integrated management of the water resources includes economic and social aspects and provides for sustainable ecological development, expert of the World Wild Fund for Nature Georg Rast (Germany) maintains. He underscored a key character of the Low Danube region connecting basins of the Black Sea and the Trans-European River.
