Another checkpoint opens on state border

Opening of another local checkpoint on the Ukrainian State Border took place on the territory of the Sumy region (North Ukraine).

According to information of Press Secretary of the Sumy Border Guard Detachment Oleksandr Shyshka, its functioning became possible due to realization of requirements on the Procedure for crossing the Ukrainian-Russian Border by residents of Ukrainian and Russian border regions, concluded between the Ukrainian Cabinet and the Russian Government on April 21, 2006.

This agreement, in particular, provides for creation of conditions for cooperation between Ukrainian and Russian border regions, including in the sphere of simplification of crossing the state border by citizens residing in the border regions of the two neighboring states.

According to the agreement, 28 local checkpoints have been determined in eight border regions of the Sumy region, including the one connecting the villages of Kondrativka, Sumy region and Yelizavetovka of the Kursk region.

Till the present time, residents of those and bordering to them villages had to go to the international checkpoint Yunakivka in order to cross the border, located in 40 kilometers from those inhabited localities.

At this local checkpoint, local citizens of the Sumy and Glushkovo border regions will be permitted to cross the border, including on foot or on a bicycle with documents available with them.
