UN to consider situation with human rights in Ukraine

A working group of the Human Rights Council will consider the situation with human rights in Ukraine on May 13, and the conclusions will be announced on May 15.

Second session of the working group of the Human Rights Council opened May 5 in UN European Division in Geneva and was instructed to implement the new mandate - carrying out of the universal periodical review of the situation with human rights. This mechanism is one of the innovations in the wok of the Council.

At this session the working group is supposed to evaluate the state in the sphere of human rights in 16 countries. Apart from Ukraine, on May 5-19 its attention will be focused on such countries as Gabon, Ghana, Peru, Guatemala, Benin, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Pakistan, Zambia, Japan, Sri-Lanka, France, Tonga, Romania and Mali.

The working group will consider the observance of human rights by these countries, their achievements and losses in the human rights area, and will propose its recommendations afterwards.
