President to veto two-rounds Kyiv mayor elections

To a
question of journalists about possibility of adoption of law introducing two
rounds to election of Kyiv mayor President Victor Yushchenko replied that he
would veto such a law.

“It is all
about how to push through certain political interests, rather than about improving
election system… I will not support it [the law] and veto it regardless of who
will be behind it, because it is against democracy”, - he said.

President
also called dangerous the procedure when Verkhovna Rada schedules early
elections of Kyiv mayor without evident grounds provided by legislation.
