President honors totalitarian regime victims in Bykivnya




On the occasion
political repressions victims’ commemoration Day President Victor Yushchenko took
part in commemoration of political repressions victims in National memorial
preserve “Bykivnya graves”. Other participants of commemorative arrangements in
Bykivnya were Verkhovna Rada Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Vice Prime Minister Ivan
Vasyunyk, National Security Council Secretary Raisa Bohatyryova, Kyiv Mayor
Leonid Chernovetsky, Kyiv Regional Administration Head Vira Ulyanchenko, members
of the Government, deputies, etc.



In his
speech at the event President said: “Today we honor memory of all countless
victims of “the red wheel” that rolled trough Ukraine in XX century and speak not
only about Stalin’s crimes but those of the whole communist regime”. He also
stressed that the time has come to speak out loud about those guilty of
repressions and tortures and to publicly condemn them.



Speaking
about Bykivnya victims Victor Yushchenko reminded that in forests near the
place around 100 thousand of our nationals, slaughtered by the NKVD in the 30’s
and 40’s, were buried in common nameless graves.



After the
address of President, those present honored victims of totalitarian repressions
with a moment of silence.
