President Victor Yushchenko attended opening of the EBRD
Annual Meeting and Business Forum in Kyiv.
In his speech President Yushchenko thanked leadership of the
Bank for deciding to hold the meeting in Ukraine. He also noted that nowadays EBRD
is the most effective and the largest investor for Ukraine. Ukrainian economy
has received about 3.2 billion euros for development of transport
infrastructure, communications, energy sector, etc. It is also important that
the Bank manages Chernobyl Shelter Fund aimed at transforming the existing
shelter over Chernobyl's destroyed unit 4 to a stable and environmentally safe
state.
Victor Yushchenko also expressed appreciation of the EBRD’s Strategy
for Ukraine, approved by the Board of Directors on 18 September 2007 and the
Program of cooperation for 2007-2009. “Ukraine aspires after becoming a
territory for European investments and has an appropriate potential for that. Many
years of cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is
a clear confirmation to that”, - he said.
