President Yanukovych meets China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi

The President stressed that our country is interested in developing trade and economic cooperation with the People's Republic of China.

"We believe that the basis of our cooperation should be primarily long-term, mutually beneficial relations on the principles of equality," he said.

"We know peaceful nature of your foreign policy, your principled position of noninterference in the internal affairs of sovereign states. Ukraine welcomes such a balanced and responsible approach," said Viktor Yanukovych.

Getting back to the subject and content of the meeting with Chinese Leader Hu Dzintao, President Yanukovych said that after their talks he was pondering over many issues. He expressed confidence that now is the time, when it is possible and necessary to bring Ukrainian-Chinese relations to a new level of real strategic partnership.

"Ukraine has always adhered to its obligations and agreements with China. First of all in Ukraine's position to recognize only one China. We are willing to consider Beijing's position to the maximum on a wide range of issues of international agenda," said the President.

Viktor Yanukovych has also confirmed the intention to visit China this autumn in response to the invitation of Chairman of the People's Republic of China Hu Dzintao.
