President meets Great Patriotic War veterans in Horlivka


The President noted that by celebrating the important date of the 65th anniversary of Victory, we honor the magnificent feat of our fathers and grandfathers, who defeated the Nazi invaders in one of the fiercest and bloodiest wars in history.


In his opinion the state must focus today on improvement of social standards, pensions, payments and general living standards. "Government should not save on people and solve its problems at their expense," said Viktor Yanukovych.

The President also told participants of the event about his view of recent developments in the country.

"We are today laying a solid foundation for the crisis and the beginning of steady growth. I am sure: Ukraine will be strong, independent and prosperous state," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych noted that the political situation of last five years proved that fundamental condition for improvement of life of the people is stability and coordination of the work of the branches of power.

"The discussion has always been, is going on and will always be, but it should be discussion, not the permanent conflict between the branches of power," he said. "We propose the course, which is based on political dialogue, social orientation, new humanitarian policy, economic reforms," he said and expressed hope that the Ukrainian people will continue to support this course.

Speaking of Ukrainian-Russian relations President Yanukovych said: "First of all we perceive these relations as opportunity." He expressed firm intention to ensure the continued strong partnership with Russia.

President Yanukovych also expressed his assurance that in foreign policy Ukraine is interested first of all in maintaining balance in relations with strategic partners in both the East and the West.

"If our relations with strategic partners develop the way we identified it during our first talks in Brussels, in Washington and in Moscow, I believe we will achieve this equilibrium,” he said.

Besides, the President emphasized that he “will not let anyone disrupt the process of stabilization in Ukraine and disorganize the efforts of the authorities on leading the country out of the recession.”

During the meeting President Yanukovych presented the veterans with vouchers for apartments.
