President Victor Yushchenko met with President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly John Tanner.
Speaking at the meeting President Yushchenko reaffirmed that Ukraine considers NATO as the only effective security system at transatlantic area. He also welcomed Albania and Croatia joining the Union saying that for Ukraine NATO opened doors policy is very important.
Victor Yushchenko informed that currently Ukraine has focused on preparation and implementation of the Annual National Program and expressed expectancy that it will be finished by the end of April. “In form and meaning the document fully meets all the requirements of the MAP and represents readiness of our state to continue reforms necessary to reach the criteria of membership” – he said.
Also Victor Yushchenko assured that being a firm ally for NATO, Ukraine is ready to continue making its contribution into strengthening global security. It is a well-known fact that Ukraine is the only non-member state of NATO that participates in all of the alliance’s operations.
The President reminded that the talks are complete and in the nearest future Ukraine expects to sign with NATO the agreement on transit of cargo through Ukrainian territory for NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Beside that during the meeting sides exchanged thought on the results of the Anniversary NATO Summit, discussed parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and NATO and its meaning for support of euro-Atlantic aspiration of our state.
