On January 8, President Victor Yushchenko received a phone call from the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso.
Jose Manuel Barroso informed Victor Yushchenko on the results of trilateral consultations between representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the EU that were conducted on January 8 in Brussels.
From his part President Yushchenko affirmed Ukraine’s readiness to renew transit of Russian gas to Europe as soon as Russia resumes its supplies.
European Commission President expressed gratitude to President of Ukraine for inviting European observers to key facilities of Ukrainian gas transport system and affirmed firmness of the EU to regulate the situation as soon as it is possible.
Jose Manuel Barroso also expressed appreciation of Ukraine’s position and Victor Yushchenko’s personal contribution in the situation and said that he hopes that with participation of the EU the way out of this dispute would be found soon.
