Ukraine will never agree to change of ovnership over its gas transit system - President

At his joint press conference with President Lech Kaczynski of Poland that took place today in Wisla town, President Yushchenko said that Ukraine would never agree to pass ownership of its gas transit system or its part to anybody, under any circumstances.

According to him with regard to Russia’ suggestions to Ukraine to buy gas for 450 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters and to take a loan to pay that price, a scheme is possible when first unreasonably high price is formed, then Ukrainian side debt is forced and finally a part of Ukrainian gas transit system is passed to Gazprom’s ownership to clear off the debt.

“This is not our path. This scenario does not suit us. We proceed from the position that Ukraine’s gas transit system is an integral part of European gas market”, - he said.
