Sokolovsky: Ukraine meets its engagements on gas transport

At his briefing President’s Representative on International Energy Security Bohdan Sokolovsky told reporters Ukrainian delegation informed European partners in detail about the situation with transit of Russian gas trough Ukrainian territory and development of talks with Russia on gas trade in 2009 and following years.

The delegates went to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany in accordance with instruction of President Victor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko.

“Based on official documents we proved that Ukraine perfectly meets its engagements on transit of Russian natural gas through Ukrainian territory to its western border”, - said Bohdan Sokolovsky adding that currently in-out volumes of gas at eastern and western boarder of Ukraine respectively are monitored daily.

According to him under current agreements Ukraine is obliged to transit about 283 million cubic meters of gas daily. “This is the amount of gas we are receiving at Ukrainian-Russian boarder. And this amount, except for so-called “technical” gas, we transit to other countries in accordance with the schedule designated by Russian side”.

Bohdan Sokolovsky also added that due to absence of agreement base with Russian side, NJSC ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ is currently carries out its obligations out of good will and with harm to technical regulations of gas transport system functioning.
