President Victor Yushchenko met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Vygaudas Ušackas who came to our country with the official visit. At the meeting sides discussed bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania.
Speaking at the meeting President Yushchenko said that Ukraine highly appreciates strategic cooperation with Lithuania. According to him implementation of Ukrainian-Lithuanian Roadmap 2009-2010, that had been signed on December 9, would help strengthen this partnership.
President Yushchenko said that Ukraine is interested in deepening energy cooperation and named here such projects as exports of Ukrainian electricity to Lithuania, participation of Ukrainian side in construction of a new NPP in Lithuania, transit of Caspian oil through ‘Odesa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk’, etc.
President Yushchenko also thanked Lithuanian side for its support of Ukraine on its path towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration. From his part Minister Ušackas said that 2008 “has been a very constructive for Ukraine in its movement towards European institutions”.
Beside that Victor Yushchenko expressed gratitude to Lithuania and its people for solidarity with Ukraine in commemoration of victims of the Holodomor 1932-1933.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister offered condolences to President Yushchenko and Ukrainian nation on the occasion of Yevpatoriya tragedy.
