President speaks at joint press conference with Libyan leader

Speaking at joint press conference with the leader of Libya Muammar al-Gaddafi that followed Ukrainian-Libyan talks, President Victor Yushchenko praised pace of Ukrainian-Libyan relations development during last one and a half years.

"In that time we have improved contacts on almost all levels... These relations are extremely important for us", - he said.

According to President special character of relations between Ukraine and Libya lies in cooperation on concrete branches of economy.

"I would put energy field first here; regarding that field we have discussed cooperation in oil extraction, exploration and processing", - said Victor Yushchenko.

He also informed that sides had discussed participation of Libya in development of Ukraine's oil industry, such as building an oil processing plant in western part of Ukraine or resuming talks on possibility of Ukrainian companies taking part in oil mining industry of Libya.

President Yushchenko said that sides have dedicated much of their attention to discussion of cooperation in agriculture. "Ukraine is interested in all-out cooperation with Libyan side in financing production of any agricultural goods here in Ukraine and forming wholesale delivery to Libya or other African countries", - hesaid.

Beside that Ukraine and Libya have discussed humanitarian cooperation, particulraly projects in education, medicine, etc.

Also military and technical cooperation has been the subject for talks between Ukraine and Libya. President Yushchenko said that "in the nearest future we will be working on formalization of these relations to sign a corresponding agreement on governmental level".
