A meeting of Economics Minister of Ukraine Bohdan Danylyshyn with new trade representative of the Russia Federation to Ukraine Serhii Ivanov took place in the Economics Ministry.
The meeting saw participation of director of the Economic Cooperation Department for the CIS states of the Ministry of Economic Development of the RF Viktor Spaskyi, deputy Economics Minister of Ukraine Nataliia Boitsun and director of the cooperation department for the CIS states and the RF Ihor Veremii.
Participants of the meeting discussed the state of affairs and prospects of bilateral trade-economic cooperation.
Bohdan Danylyshyn noted the positive tendencies of increase in foreign trade turnover. Thus, according to information of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine foreign trade turnover between Ukraine and the Russian Federation during 9 months of 2008 totaled USD 32.8 billion and increased as against the same period of 2007 by USD 8.6 billion (or by 35,7 percent).
The Economics Minister stressed that tendency of increase in trade turnover between the countries is evidence of regulated partnership relations between Ukraine and Russia.
Participants of the meeting also noted that during 9 months this year merchandise imports from the Russian Federation increased by 35 percent. This is not only necessary for Ukraine energy carriers making up half of the total import but the outputs of machine-building, chemical and metallurgical industry.
The sides discussed topical issues on bilateral cooperation, in particular, the creation of favorable conditions for mutually beneficial trade between the states through the development of free trade regime taking into consideration the WTO norms and rules.
