Unique works on exploration of Earth interior to be held in Ukraine

According to DOBRE program, within complex scientific research of deep structure of Earth crust of central and eastern Europe, international works will be held in Kyiv on October 9-20, 2008, the Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences reported.

This is a unique European project. The research is held by geophysicist of Ukraine, Poland, Denmark, Hungary and the Netherlands under the auspices of UNESCO. Zakarpattia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne and Zhytomyr regions (West Ukraine) are involved in the project.

As many as 225 seismic stations will be located on 600-kilometer line from Hungary to Ukraine (Rivne region). They will register 11 explosions that will allow to see through the crust to the depth of 30 kilometers with further analysis of oil-and-gas content.

The Subbotin Institute of Geophysics and state-run enterprise UkrHeoFizyka are charged to implement the project. UkrHeoFizyka and KarpatyVybukhProm are responsible for drilling and blasting operations according to ecological requirements and safety instructions. First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov is charged to control the works on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers.
