Security agencies from Ukraine, Germany, Georgia share experience in fighting drug criminality

The security services of Ukraine, Germany and Georgia have exchanged experience in and familiarized themselves with new methods for counteracting transnational organized crime in the field of illegal drug dealing. A meeting between agents from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (BKA) and the Special Operations Department at the Georgian Interior Ministry took place during an international seminar entitled "Synthetic drugs, precursors and controlled supplies" in Kyiv.

Participants in the event praised the level of cooperation in counteracting international drug dealing. In particular, they conducted joint operations on neutralizing transnational criminal groups that organized the stable smuggling of narcotic and psychotropic substances across Ukraine to west European countries.

The representatives from three security agencies stressed the need to constantly exchange information between the partners, maintain international cooperation at all levels in order to coordinate joint activities and efficient fight against international drug dealing.

According to the press center of the SBU, the Ukrainian security agency in 2006-2008 liquidated five drug laboratories, uncovered over 1,200 crimes linked to illegal operations with drugs, and prevented the smuggling of drugs in Ukraine in 213 cases. The SBU also seized over 626 kilograms of heroine and 60 kilograms of cocaine, and nearly 20 kilograms of psychotropic substances. Their total "market value" is over UAH 322 million.
