Ukraine, Europol mulling draft agreement on strategic partnership

Ukraine and Europol (European Law Enforcement Organisation) have launched the first round of talks to prepare a draft agreement on strategic partnership.

The parties agreed on key issues of the document. The matter particularly concerns identification of the areas of combating crime being within the Europol mandate and terms of their application in the process of the agreement implementation, the Interior Ministry Public and International Relations Department informed.

Apart from this, the two parties discussed an organization ground of Ukraine-Europol cooperation, reached a consensus on the identification of definitions and principles put in the agreement, outlined a procedure of the agreement's coming into operation. Europol delivered to the Ukrainian party "The Rules on the Confidentiality of Europol Information" based on which the organization defines regulations on restricted data exchange with Europol Member-States.

A Ukrainian delegation in the negotiations is headed by Deputy Interior Minister Vasyl Marmazov.

Europol is the European Law Enforcement Organization which aims at improving the effectiveness and co-operation of the competent authorities in the Member States in preventing and combating terrorism, unlawful drug trafficking and other serious forms of international organized crime.
