In Vienna President Victor Yushchenko and the Federal President Austria Dr. Heinz Fischer chaired Ukrainian-Austrian talks.
Later, at the joint press availability with President Fischer, President Yushchenko informed that during the talks sides discussed many questions of bilateral cooperation including political, trade, economic, energy, humanitarian cooperation.
Much time they also dedicated to European integration of Ukraine. Here Victor Yushchenko stressed that Austria’s support of Ukraine in the talks with the EU on the new strengthened agreement is very important for our country.
From his part President Fischer assured that his country remains a supporter of Ukraine’s steps towards the EU. Admitting that the process is complicated, he said that such successes of Ukraine as becoming WTO member, beginning talks with the EU on the new strengthened agreement, participation of Ukraine in forming a common European energy policy, bring our country closer to EU membership. “With each year relations between Ukraine and the EU should become closer, and when it comes to Austria, we will make all steps to ensure that”, - he added.
Speaking about energy cooperation the Astrian leader said that Ukraine has proven that it is a firm partner in transit of energy resources. President Yushchenko added that Ukraine's energy transit complex is an integral part of European gas market and it will always be so.
Besides President Yushchenko thanked President Fischer for Astria's support in OSCE Parliamentary Assembly passing the resolution recognizing Holodomor 1932-1933. President of Austria from his part expressed gratitude to Ukraine for support of Austria’s efforts in becoming an elected member of the UN Security Council.
