Presidents of Ukraine, Malta hold joint press conference

President Victor Yushchenko and President Edward Fenech Adami of Malta held a joint press conference.

Speaking about meaning of President Adami’s visit to Ukraine, President Victor Yushchenko said: “It is the first top-level visit. We have a very rich plan of joint work, because today’s visit has established formation of a serious normative basis, which will regulate Ukraine’s relations with one of the most important EU countries – with Malta”.

Signature of the two intergovernmental agreements (on joint organized crime fighting and cooperation in tourism), President named a very important result of the visit. Also, according to him, a number of documents between Ukraine and Malta are currently being elaborated.

President Yushchenko also informed that during the talks sides dwelled on European questions. He thanked President Adami for his country’s support of Ukraine on its path towards membership in the EU. “We would like to adopt all the experience of the EU member countries, especially of those of recent EU enlargements, on how they were managing political and economic challenges on their path to the EU.”, - he added.

From his part President Edward Fenech Adami said: “I promised that Maltese government will support Ukraine’s wish to integrate into the EU. We hope that it will happen as soon as possible, although it is a hard work indeed”.
He also expressed support to Ukraine’s efforts in achieving world’s recognition of Holodomor as a tragedy in mankind’s history.
