President views WWII battle reconstruction

President
Victor Yushchenko together with his family viewed a military-historic
reconstruction of a World War II battle, which took place in May 1945 on Elbe River
near Stolberg
town between Infantry Company of the First Ukrainian front of the Red Army,
reinforced by American and British troops, and German tactical squad.

The
reconstruction, named “Great Victory! May of 1945”, has been arranged at
the territory of Kyiv racing track “Pyrohovo” by members of youth public organization
“Kyiv club The Red Star”. Over 700 people took part in the event, among them
300 from military-historic clubs of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, Czech
Republic, as well as Internal Forces of Ukraine members and from other law
enforcement structures.

After the event
President Yushchenko talked to the performers. He greeted them with Victory Day
and thanked them for their efforts in preserving the history of the war and
thus honoring memory of those lost in it.
