The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development forecasts the GDP growth at 5.5 percent in the current year.
According to the renewed EBRD forecasts, total growth of the economy in East European countries and the CIS countries will make up six percent against 7.3 percent in 2007, EBRD Chief Economist Erik Berglof told a press conference. Some slowdown is related to a sharp price increase on foodstuffs and energy carriers, as well as to a liquidity crisis.
The economy growth in Central Europe and the Baltic countries will be 4.8 percent (5.9 percent last year). In South-Eastern Europe the economy growth is forecasted at five percent (6.1 percent in 2007). In the CIS countries the growth of seven percent is forecasted (8.4 percent last year).
