EBRD extends EUR 231,358 for renewal of heating system at orphanage in Chernihiv region

The Komarivka boarding school in Borzna district, Chernihiv region will get financial aid of EUR 231,358 from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Chernihiv Governor Volodymyr Khomenko and EBRD President Jean Lemierre signed the agreement to this effect during a meeting at the site.

One of ERBD's priorities this year is introduction of energy saving technologies at public establishments, the regional state administration reported. The boarding school in Komarivka was selected due to the need for a full replacement of its heat supply system. Now it consists of three manually loaded coal furnaces and rusting through pipes with damaged isolation. The majority of heating radiators are blocked and can hardly transmit heat, due to which it is very cold in the boarding school premises in autumn and winter.

In keeping with the agreement signed, the furnaces will be replaced with coal boilers bearing temperature regulators. Pipes and radiators were replaced with new ones. Everything will be done for the children to feel warmer. Costs on the operation and servicing of the heating system have seriously reduced.

150 children from 6 to 17 are studying at the boarding school, which has been functioning since 1959; including 52 orphans and children without parental care.
