The forum "Intergovernmental cooperation in Central and Western Asia 2007" opened in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (China) on Sunday. The two-day forum, organized by the chancellery of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the media holding Xinjiang Economic Newspaper, is attended by some 100 representatives of the leading media and officials from China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Honkong, Pakistan and Turkey.
The Ukrainian national news agency Ukrinform has been invited to represent Ukraine. Its representative familiarized the forum participants about information opportunities of the agency and told them about cooperation with Asian news agencies.
The topic of the forum "Cooperation and communication, harmony in Asia" arouse great interest among the participants. The speakers stressed on the media's obligations before the society and economics, as a factor of intergovernmental and interregional cooperation. As it was stressed, this is particularly important in the era of globalization, when the media have become a corner stone of national security.
The choice of Xinjiang is not accidental, as it is situated in the Eurasian continent, being the biggest territorial unit of China, borders on 8 countries and is situated on the important transportation crossroads.
