Ukraine and Moldova work out risk management system in Dniestr river basin

The third international meeting within the ecological project "International Risk Management in the Dniestr River Basin" with the participation of Ukraine, Germany and Moldova was held in Lviv.

The meeting participants got familiar with the experience of prevention of and reaction on emergencies in the Rhein basin, outlined the plan of joint action in protection of one of Europe's main water routes - Dniestr - from emergencies.

The event continued into a series of meetings, initiated by the German Federal Ministry of Natural Environment Protection. Its experts provide consultative assistance to neighbour countries in the sphere of ecology. One of its early results were agreements in Chisinau on transborder cooperation of the Ukrainian and Moldovan sides in case of emergencies. Scientists have worked out common approaches in appraisal of threats at industrial facilities in the Dniestr basin.

Within the framework of realization of the plan on prevention of and notification about emergencies relevant international centers are supposed to be created. Emergency exercises will be held on the basis of one of Ukrainian facilities in 2008.
