President Victor Yushchenko on Wednesday visited the Tsybli medical center for war veterans.
In a Victory Day speech to its patients, the Ukrainian leader said this date has “mainly human facets.” “This day was forged by millions of people and families, their exploits, pain and sufferings,” he said. “As a citizen and Ukraine’s President, I feel obligated to improve your welfare. […] I understand that children will never pay off this debt to their parents but we must try to pay it off.”
Yushchenko said it was incumbent on the government to help each of Ukraine’s two million veterans of the Great Patriotic War and added that there have been quite a few positive social changes over the past three years.
The President gave the center medical equipment and household appliances, and presented wristwatches to each veteran.
