President Victor Yushchenko on Wednesday met with Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.
The Ukrainian leader invited King Carl XVI Gustaf and his wife to visit Ukraine in 2008 and described Sweden as “our reliable partner and one of our most consistent supporters in the European Union.”
Yushchenko said both states should build closer bilateral ties, adding that Ukraine sought to sign an “ambitious” enhanced cooperation agreement with the European Union to develop political association and economic cooperation.
The meeting also focused on how to resolve the country’s political crisis. Yushchenko expressed confidence early parliamentary elections would help restore political stability.
