President calls for compromise

President Victor Yushchenko is now holding talks with members of a special group that was set up last Friday to craft changes to Ukraine’s constitution and other laws to hold early parliamentary elections.

The group consists of representatives of the country’s government, ruling coalition and opposition, among them Deputy Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Deputy Speaker Adam Martynyuk, Raisa Bohatyryova, head of the Regions Party parliamentary faction, BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko and Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, head of the pro-presidential Our Ukraine bloc.

Yushchenko insists that they must prepare the necessary legislative changes and compromise on a new poll date as soon as possible.
