President honors Chernobyl Disaster Liquidators

th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster President Viktor Yanukovych laid flowers to the Memorial to Liquidators of Chernobyl Disaster near the north gate of the Chernobyl NPP.

Other participants of the event were Minister for Emergencies Nestor Shufrych, Chairman of Kyiv Regional State Administration Anatoliy Prisyazhnyuk and Managing Director of SSE "Chernobyl NPP" Ihor Gramotkin.

President Yanukovych also briefly talked to the station staff. He emphasized that the primary objective of the government now is to ensure successful continuation the Shelter Implementation Plan for similar disasters never to happen in the future.

The President particularly thanked Chernobyl NPP staff for their work.

Viktor Yanukovych, also announced his intention to discuss at his today's meeting with the Director of the EBRD in Ukraine, the issue of funding the Shelter Plan. He said that current gap in financing is around 400 million Euros.

The President also announced that next year, to the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, he would initiate an international summit on the subject. "At the event we will gather all financial donors, our partners in Shelter Implementation Plan,” said Viktor Yanukovych, reminding that he had announced this initiative during his visit to Washington.

According to the President, preparation for the event has actually started. The situation around construction of the Shelter will be considered in the nearest future, particularly the work of contractors.
