"The situation, the Armed Forces are currently in, is extremely difficult," said Viktor Yanukovych.
According to the President, the most noticeable impact of the global economic crisis was on the Ukrainian military. "There are many problems with equipment and functioning of the Armed Forces. They have actually become critical and put the military on the verge of collapse," said President Yanukovych.
"I believe that putting the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the path of sustainable development is our common task and it requires first of all a consolidated solution, and then, long and hard work. National Security Council should take supervision over planning of the process and its implementation," he said.
"It is necessary to determine the immediate measures to stop further deterioration of the capabilities of the Ukrainian army, to preserve its human resources, to ensure proper execution of national defense tasks and Ukraine’s compliance with international obligations," added Viktor Yanukovych.
Another block of questions discussed at the meeting was dedicated to further development of the Armed Forces and providing this development’s planning.
Besides, participants of the meeting have discussed issues of social protection of servicemen and their families.
