At the beginning of the celebration, the ceremony of flying the National Flag took place.
Congratulating all the Ukrainians on the outstanding date, the President called its celebration in the ancient capital of Hetmans symbolic.
"Here in Chyhyryn our great Ukrainian nation began. Here on this land is our military beginning and the source of our national energy. Here the host of Bohdan Khmelnytsky was born to liberate our spirits and pave the road to our national independence", said Victor Yushchenko.
Within the framework of the celebration President also watched a performance by the company of soldiers of the Guards of Honor company.
