President takes part in celebration of 200 years since Mykola Gogol’s birthday.

Within the framework of his working visit to Poltava region, in Myrhorod city President Victor Yushchenko took part in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mykola Gogol’s birthday.

Speaking at the event President Yushchenko pointed to importance of Mykola Gogol’s works for Ukrainian, Russian and world literature.

“Along with Shevchenko and Kotlyarevsky, Gogol woke up Ukraine to the new life. Maybe he did not realize what a powerful nation making force he restored from the past. But he did it for us, his descendants and successors”, - said Victor Yushchenko.

He also thanked all those, who does like, preserve and study Gogol’s works, as well as to those gathered to honor Mykola Gogol’s name.
