President Victor Yushchenko met with PACE monitoring co-rapporteurs on Ukraine Renate Wohlwend and Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger.
At the meeting President Yushchenko set forth his vision of the development of political processes in Ukraine and perspectives of the constitutional reform. Sides have discussed Ukraine honouring its obligations and commitments before the Council of Europe and cooperation between Ukraine and PACE.
"As the Head of State I pay special attention to Ukraine keeping up to its commitments to the Council of Europe", - said Victor Yushchenko adding that he constantly monitors the situation in that field.
He said that cooperation between Ukraine and PACE is an important contribution into realization of European integration aspirations of Ukraine and that PACE recommendations favor improvements in political and social life in Ukraine by moving forward the important democratic reforms.
Speaking about constitutional reform in Ukraine Victor Yushchenko said that he had submitted to the parliament the draft Constitution and stressed that Ukraine is interested in cooperation with the Council of Europe on enhancement of the document.
Making comments on internal political situation in Ukraine, particularly on preparation to presidential election, Victor Yushchenko repeated that he is ready to announce simultaneous early presidential and parliamentary elections under condition of alteration of electoral legislation and abolition of deputies' immunity.
From her part, Renate Wohlwend said that PACE sees a partner in Ukraine. She also informed that during their two-day visit to Ukraine the co-rapporteurs will focus on three main questions: the constitutional reform, electoral legislation and judicial system reform.
