President Yushchenko meets Prime Minister Brown

In London President Victor Yushchenko met with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Gordon Brown. At the meeting sides discussed the situation with Russian gas transit to Europe through Ukraine.

After the meeting President Yushchenko talked to journalists. He said that he had a long conversation with Gordon Brown aimed at "providing information about development of the situation and, most importantly, about the plan of its regulation".

President Yushchenko repeated that Ukraine fulfills its obligations regarding transit of Russian gas to Europe, fully paid for gas supplied by Russia in 2008 and never took gas intended for European customers out of the transit system, especially after January 1, 2009.

Beside that President repeated that Ukraine is ready to provide transit of Russian gas to Europe immediately after Russia supplies full volumes of the resource. "We call upon Russian side to do only one thing: to open full supply of gas, as appropriate technical agreement demands it. Ukraine guarantees transit of this gas", - said Victor Yushchenko.
