President Victor Yushchenko held phone talks with the President of Russia Dmitri Medvedev today.
During the conversation the two Presidents focused on gas relations between Ukraine and Russia.
President Yushchenko emphasized that for now all the obstacles to normal transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe have been removed and international observers have been in Ukraine since January 9 and are ready to do their job. He also informed that he had instructed the Government to provide uninterrupted transit of Russian gas to Europe.
Beside that President Yushchenko said that it is necessary to go on with the talks on supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine itself in 2009. As one of the key points in the process President named elaboration and signature of the Intergovernmental Protocol on transit and gas prices for 2009.
Victor Yushchenko added that it is important that political constituent of the talks was set aside during future meeting of the Prime Ministers of the two countries.
