President holds phone talks with German Chancellor

President Victor Yushchenko had phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel today.

President Yushchenko informed Chancellor Merkel that Ukraine is ready to resume transit of Russian gas to Europe at any time and the only obstacle to that is low volumes of gas Russia supplies to Ukrainian-Russian border gas stations.

President emphasized that Ukraine never caused cutting off of gas supplies to Europe or took gas intended for European consumers out of the system, adding that our country has already used 75 million cubic meters of our own reserved gas to ensure uninterrupted supplies to Europe.

Beside that sides discussed holding Ukraine-Russia-EU Summit on gas transit and Angela Merkel said that she supported the idea of holding it as soon as possible.

President Yushchenko also reaffirmed his readiness to take part in such a summit if it is held at the territory of any of the European countries.
