Ukraine interested in energy cooperation with Lithuania - President

Speaking to journalists at his joint press conference with President Valdas Adamkus, President Victor Yushchenko said that Ukraine is highly interested in deepening energy cooperation with Lithuania.

According to him Ukrainian side is ready to discuss long-term agreement with Lithuania on imports of electrical energy from our country, particularly after shutdown of Ignalina NPP.

“Ukraine has proper facility at hand. We have export potential sufficient to fulfill needs of Baltic region and, possibly, of other consumers”, - said Victor Yushchenko. Also President Yushchenko affirmed readiness of ‘Atomenergomash’ and ‘Atomremontservis’ companies to provide special equipment and to work at the construction of a new NPP in Lithuania and said that these companies had already sent their bids for the tender.

According to President, establishment of Ukrainian-Lithuanian energy working group would improve coordination of cooperation between the states in the field.

From his part President Adamkus thanked the Ukrainian side for readiness to such cooperation. “We have always been the state with nuclear energy. And so it will be”, - he said.
