President takes part in Baku Energy Summit

Together with delegates from Azerbaijan, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Turkey, Hungary, Switzerland, the USA, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the European Commission, President Victor Yushchenko took part in the 4th Energy Summit in Baku.

The agenda of the summit included discussion of such important projects as Euro-Asian oil transport route and Caspian-Black Sea-Baltic Sea energy resources transit space.

Speaking about Euro-Asian oil transit route President Yushchenko said that Ukraine is fully dedicated to implementation of the project.

According to him currently Ukraine conducts active talks with Azerbaijan on iconditions of Azerbaijani business work on our country's territory. Also Ukraine is ready to arrange opening of gas stations network at its territory to provide implementation of that part of the project.

Beside that President said that Ukraine is close to solving issues with transit direction of Odesa-Brody pipline.

President said that he did not see any seriouse obstacles to inplementation of Euro-Asian transit route project on Ukrainian side. “I am sure that in December we will have presentation of concrete technical and economic blueprint on the whole route and clearly see perspectives of the project”, - he said.

Speaking about Caspian-Black Sea-Baltic Sea energy transit space President Yushchenko first of all said that it should be protected from “any attempts of political or other influence and pressure”. He also added that while conducting dialogue with any side that would like to take part in the projects each of them should be perceived equal in rights.

Victor Yushchenko said that it is a pleasure that the number of participants of the dialogue is growing. “Indeed we have formed dialogue … that leads us quick and effectively enough towards implementation of our ideas”, - he added.

Among positive shifts in the project President also named establishment of ‘Sarmatia’ joint venture, Intergovernmental working group on Caspian-Black Sea – Baltic Sea energy transit route, support of the project from the USA and the EU, etc.

“We demonstrate joint political will and want to declare that the initiative of forming reliable energy space from Caspian Sea through Black Sea and to Baltic Sea is not a fantasy. We are dedicated [to the project] and we provide countries in the region with support”, - said Victor Yushchenko.
