President holds meeting on persons' with sight disabilities problems

President Victor Yushchenko gathered a meeting today on helping persons with sight disabilities. Participants of the meeting were Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevych, Education Minister Ivan Vakarchuk, Minister for Labor Liudmyla Denysova, deputy Chief of Staff of Presidential Secretariat Roman Bezsmertnyi, and representatives of organizations for persons with sight disabilities.

At the meeting sides have discussed four main blocks of issues:

  • treatment and prevention of sight illnesses
  • social adaptation of persons with disabilities
  • employment of disabled persons
  • infrastructural issues

In his opening word President Yushchenko stressed that main problem with improvement of life condition for disabled persons in Ukraine remains their integration into society and complications with their access to education.

Beside that President Yushchenko pointed to problems in persons with sight impairments employmnent and faults in organization of civil infrastructure.

He addressed Ministry of Finances and Ministry of Labor with a request to provide financing of social protection programs to protect disabled persons and improve their living conditions.
