Ukrainian citizens adopted over 13,000 children deprived of parental care over the nine months of 2008, according to the press service of the Ukrainian Family, Youth and Sports Ministry.
In particular, Ukrainian citizens adopted 1,514 orphaned children and children deprived of parental care, while foreigners adopted 998 children over the period.
As of October 1, a total of 6,036 orphaned and abandoned children were brought up in foster and children's homes. Of them, 1,515 children were accepted to these homes only in the last nine months of 2008, which is 150 children up year-over-year.
