Speaking to journalists in Vyzhnytsya town, Chernivtsi region President Victor Yushchenko said that he is to address the Government with an assignment to elaborate regional program on preventing and fighting floods.
He expressed assurance that it had been possible to avoid many things that happened during the storms in the western part of Ukraine with proper measures taken beforehand.
According to President main causes for heavy damages in the region and in Vyzhnytsya in particular were uncontrolled and often illegal cutting down the forests, insufficient work on strengthening river banks, inadequate technical equipment of local units of Ministry for Emergencies, etc.
