Ukraine could count on better relations with Russia, says Foreign Minister

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko said in an interview with the Bulgarian leading information agency FOCUS that Ukraine had obtained "very serious results" during a NATO Summit in Bucharest owing to the support of Bulgaria and other member states of the North Atlantic alliance.

He said Euro-Atlantic integration for Ukraine is the issue of national security, "the issue of its independence and future." Ohryzko noted that Ukraine "is interested in better relations with Russia, because Russia is a good partner for us and we want to maintain normal relations with this partner."

He made an example of Bulgaria, which is a member state of the European Union and NATO, and, at the same time, remains a friend of Russia. Therefore, there are no grounds to consider Ukraine's course for Euro-Atlantic integration as steps taken against Russia, he said.

"We will be members of both NATO and the European Union, but we also say that Ukraine will have the best relations with Russia and that Russia wants the same," Ohryzko said.
