A delegation of the Justice Ministry participates in the international seminar on freedom of speech in the Black Sea region countries held in the Moldovan capital Chisinau on May 19-20, the Justice Ministry press service informs.
Participating in the seminar are officials of state bodies and international institutes, representatives of the NGOs and the civil society of the Black Sea region. On the European part, the seminar will be attended by OSCE representatives on freedom of the media, EU management on the media and the information society, the International Federation of Journalists, etc.
The seminar is dedicated to international standards of the freedom of speech and is aimed at establishment of a regional dialogue between the state bodies and the civil society organizations. The NGOs will have an opportunity to express their opinions on the problems in this sphere.
By the seminar's results, it is planned to elaborate relevant recommendations for the governments of the region's countries.
In 2007, the European Commission adopted a communique on intensification of cooperation within the Black Sea region and with the EU. One of the main tasks of this initiative is observation of human rights and enhancement of democracy in the region through urging a dialogue between organizations of the civil society. In particular, it is expected to carry out a number of annual seminars on different aspects of human rights.
