Presidents of Ukraine, Lithuania hold joint press conference




At his
joint press availability with President Valdas Adamkus in Vilnius, which followed the Session of
the Council of Lithuanian and Ukrainian presidents, President Victor Yushchenko expressed satisfaction
about today’s talks.



According
to him the sides discussed many important questions: bilateral relations,
regional cooperation and security, European and Euro-Atlantic perspectives
before Ukraine,
some aspects of branch cooperation such as in transport and agriculture, etc.



Speaking
about Ukraine’s
chances of gaining NATO MAP President Yushchenko said that he is optimistic
about them. According to him finding firm international partners in that question
is no less important than taking active steps inside the country, and that was
one of the key aims of his visit to Lithuania. Here he also repeated
gratitude to Lithuanian side and President Adamkus in person, for their support
of Ukraine in Bucharest.



Speaking
about economic and trade cooperation between the countries President Yushchenko
stressed that here Ukraine
is highly interested in arranging exports of electricity to the Lithuanian
market. He also said that Ukraine
would appreciate much Lithuanian investors’ participation in preparation to
EURO 2012 championship.



From his
part Valdas Adamkus expressed appreciation of today’s talks as well. He stressed
reciprocal Lithuania’s
interest in energy cooperation with Ukraine. Besides he emphasized that
his country would further on firmly support Ukraine on its Euro-Atlantic
course.
