On the 22nd
anniversary of Chornobyl disaster President Victor Yushchenko took part in
flower laying ceremony near the monument “To Heroes of Chornobyl” and later, in
a commemorative liturgy for those lost in the tragedy.
At the
arrangement were also present Verkhovna Rada Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk, National
Security and Defense Council Secretary Rayisa Bohatyryova, President’s Secretariat
Chief of Staff Victor Baloha, Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky, Kyiv Regional Administration
head Vira Ulyanchenko, Defense Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, other officials,
liquidators of the disaster, relatives of those who died in it.
To 22 bell
chimes those present honored the victims of Chornobyl disaster with a moment of
silence. After that President Yushchenko light a candle for them in Chornobyl Chapel.
